Elsie Mark Character Analysis

Elsie Mark is Mr. Mark’s sister and a candidate in an upcoming scholarship competition. When her brother’s attempt to bribe Obi fails, she herself shows up at Obi’s apartment and pleads with him, seemingly willing to offer sexual favors in exchange for the scholarship. Obi again declines, and Clara walks in during this interaction, causing a briefly awkward situation in which she suspects Obi of cheating. Though at the time it’s not obvious to Obi that Elsie was offering to exchange sexual favors for the scholarship, but he later claims to Christopher that she was.
