Echo is a nymph who used to distract Juno while Jupiter was being unfaithful to her. Juno discovered this and cursed Echo to only repeat the words that another person says to her. When Narcissus rejects Echo, she repeats his rejection and flees to a cave in shame. When Narcissus is dying, Echo echoes his wailing.
