The senior lieutenant of the Dark Nebula (a Foundation ship) is stunned to see an enormous Imperial ship bearing the Spaceship-and-Sun insignia. Alarms blare as the crew scrambles to prepare for either escape or battle. Meanwhile, in the hyperwave room, a desperate message is sent repeatedly to the Foundation.
This brief chapter is the only glimpse the reader gets of the war between Korell and the Foundation. As is the case for much of the novel, Asimov elides what would often be considered major moments in history.
