Dawn: Book 3, Chapter 13 Summary & Analysis

Summary
Analysis
The other humans react more strongly to the drugs than Lilith or Joseph and remain drugged for days. Joseph, who is not drugged, protests that it isn’t right for the Oankali to do this to the humans, but Nikanj argues that it’s necessary to dull humans’ fear of strangers for their own good.
Nikanj continues to defend morally questionable actions, like drugging all the humans, by claiming that it’s for the humans’ own good. The drugging is yet another action by the Oankali that limits the humans’ ability to make decisions for themselves.
